GoodGut Diary — Last updated: Monday 10th August 2026

GoodGut Diary ("the app") is a personal food, symptom, and bowel movement diary intended to help you track patterns related to gut health. This policy explains what data the app handles and how.

Data stored on your device

All entries you log — meals, foods, ingredients, bowel movements, symptoms, notes, and tags — are stored locally on your device only, in a private on-device database. This data is not uploaded to, or stored on, any server operated by us. We do not collect, receive, or have access to your diary entries.

You can permanently delete all stored data at any time from the app's Settings screen using the "Clear All Data" option. Uninstalling the app also removes all locally stored data.

Camera access

The app requests camera access solely to scan product barcodes when logging a food item, using Google's on-device barcode scanning service. The camera is used only at the moment you tap the scan button; no photos or video are captured, stored, or transmitted anywhere by the app.

Barcode lookups (Open Food Facts)

When you scan a barcode, the app sends the scanned barcode number to the Open Food Facts API to retrieve public product information (name and ingredients). No personal information, diary entries, or device identifiers are sent as part of this request — only the barcode number itself.

Food data provided by Open Food Facts (openfoodfacts.org), available under the Open Database License.

Exporting your data

The app lets you generate a PDF summary of your logged meals, bowel movements, and symptoms on request. This PDF is created entirely on your device and is only shared if you actively choose to share it (for example, with a doctor) using your device's own share menu. We do not receive a copy of any exported report.

No accounts, no ads, no analytics

The app does not require account creation or sign-in, does not display advertisements, and does not include third-party analytics or tracking software.

Health information

This app is intended as a personal tracking tool and is not a medical device. It does not diagnose, treat, or provide medical advice. Information you log is for your own personal reference; consult a qualified healthcare professional for medical concerns.

Children's privacy

The app does not knowingly collect personal information from children, as all data entered is stored locally on the device and not transmitted to us.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy if the app's data practices change. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
